Cash Performance Numbers

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby gcm223 » Thu Nov 07, 2013 9:11 am

I am in the trial stage of deciding on purchasing the Advisor version of your software.

I take transactions down from Schwab Advisor Services and everything comes across just fine.

When I go to run a performance report for my accounts, the performace of my cash account is way off. Can the Cash account be excluded? I think the reason is that the Cash account is used to post my management fees. That makes the cash account look like it lost money.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hi gcm223,

Thanks for trying Fund Manager.

Yes, the management fees in your cash account would cause it to have poor performance. There are a few options you can consider:

1) Create a new investment for your management fees. Put the management fee transactions in there instead of cash. The cash will see a redemption to pay for the management fees, but this will put the performance penalty into the management fee investment, and not cash investment. Basically, you're breaking out the management fees onto their own line, so it is more clear.

2) If you don't want the management fees to affect reported performance at all, you can change them from account fee transactions to a sell transaction. This will remove the management fee penalty from cash as well as the overall client portfolio.

3) Leave it like it is, and explain to your clients that the cash performance is inclusive of management fees.
Thanks,
Mark
