Portfolio Performance

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Hi Mark
Just another follow up question in relation to the original query.

I am struggling with understanding the true performance of my overall portfolio. I have read the ROI and TWI yield definitions and I understand it in theory - however not sure looking at ROI numbers for my portfolio if this is a true reflection of how my investments have "performed" over the past 15 years. One of the fields I have in the Portfolio Editor view is the "Yield Inception" along with Unrealized Gain%. For my Overall portfolio, the Yield Inception reads as 0.36% and Unrealized Gain% reads as -7.99% - pretty poor performance, I guess .

The questions I have are:
1) Does Yield Inception also takes into consideration realized Gains/losses over the years on securities that I dont hold any more?
2) Does it also include accrued and received interest?
2) Can i create a custom report where I can exclude certain securities aka Nortel which -vely impact my Investment performance?

Thanks for your help.

Hello cricketbunty,

1) Yes, the ROI yields include your realized gains/losses.

2) It includes recorded interest transactions, and optionally it can include accrued interest. See "Options / General Preferences... / Yields / Include Accrued Interest in Yield Calculations". For accrued interest to be calculated you must set the Income properties of your investment to bond style interest, and enter the related fields, like coupon %, maturity, etc.

3) You can do this a few ways. You can create a Custom report with "ROI (between)" or "ROI (inception)" and under the "FIlter..." settings you can choose to exclude a certain symbol. Alternatively, you could set up another sub-portfolio, and copy/paste the investments you want into this other sub-portfolio. You could just have this for testing if you want, and close it when you're done.
Thanks,
Mark
