Need to move FM from onedrive to local

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,

I’ve been running FM for a few years now on a Macbook using parallels VM, with a onedrive cloud portable installation and the portable mode option enabled.

Following issues with my onedrive I had to update my Macbook to Mac OS Sequoia and since then I am having trouble and haven’t been able to automatically recover quite a few investments from onedrive. Unfortunately, I found now that no FM backups were available (my bad).

So I have spent a few hours and managed to recover and update manually the “lost” investments one by one.

Since I don’t trust my onedrive to be performing properly, I have moved my data files to a new dedicated local folder. Also, I have made a FM backup to another local file.
Having done this, I have tried to lauch FM again but it is trying to use data from the “old” onedrive folder (where the fm.exe is) instead of the files from the new saved data local location.

My question now is what is the best course of action to I launch FM with the data from the new local backup done today, where the correct investments data are?
Do I need first to uninstall FM from cloud and install it on local? Remove the portable option and try again?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Oscar,

To change where your data is opened from you can either:

1) Use "File / Open Portfolio..." and open the data from where you want.

or

2) If the correct data is already open, but you want to change where it is stored, use "File / File Operations / Set Data Location...". This command will copy all the data files currently open to the specified folder. Press "Help" from within this dialog for more explanation.

If you don't need to use portable/cloud mode, I'd suggest turning it off. It will load/exit a bit faster. You can turn it off at "Options / General Preferences... / Data". That is the same location where you can also adjust your automatic backup settings.
Thanks,
Mark
